To hear the beauty industry tell it, having beautiful, flawless skin is an expensive and time-consuming endeavor. It’s true that you can spend as many dollars as you can afford on your skin and spend hours and hours of time in the pursuit of a flawless complexion. It is also true that you don’t have to do either. Here are five easy and inexpensive steps to beautiful skin:

Step 1: Know your skin type. There are basically three skin types — dry, oily, and combination. Determining which skin type you have isn’t rocket science, and you don’t really need an expert to tell you if your skin is dry, if your skin is oily, or if you have both dry and oily areas of skin on your face. Knowing what skin type you have will tell you what kind of skin care products that you should purchase.

Step 2: Wash your hands thoroughly before you clean your face. Germs from your hands can be easily transferred to your face. It’s amazing how often people don’t think to wash their hands before they start their facial cleansing.

Step 3: According to your skin type, clean your face twice a day (morning and evening) with a facial cleanser that is right for you. If you have very, very oily skin, you will need to clean your face three times a day. Don’t “scrub” your skin. Use your fingers to wash, and don’t apply a lot of pressure. Use a gentle, circular motion and then rinse your face and PAT it dry…don’t rub your face!

Step 4: Use tepid water to clean your face. Hot water isn’t going to make your face any cleaner than warm water, and hot water tends to dry the skin. Cold water doesn’t clean as completely as warm water.

Step 5: Apply moisturizer each and every time you wash your face. Don’t skip a time, and be generous with the amount of moisturizer that you apply.

There you have it. These five steps will give you beautiful and healthy skin!

Most moles are the result of heredity. If your mom or dad has a mole, then you are very likely to also have a mole. It is believed that moles that are not caused by heredity are caused by overexposure to the sun, like freckles or age spots.
Protecting your skin for excessive sun rays is so important. Every dermatologist will tell you that the sun does more damage to the skin than all other environmental agents put together. Use a sunscreen with an SPF rating of at least 15. Avoid being in direct sunlight between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, and if you must be in the sun during those hours, wear sunscreen AND a hat and protective clothing…long pants and long-sleeved shirts.

Okay, back to moles. Moles on the face have often been called “beauty marks” and intentionally enhanced. Cindy Crawford, Enrique Iglesias, and Madonna all have rather famous moles. Moles that aren’t wanted are most often removed by dermatologists using liquid nitrogen. Sometimes there will be a small scar left as a reminder that there was once a mole.

Moles are as unique as snowflakes. No two people have absolutely identical moles. Moles are symmetrical and can be any color - flesh tone, tan, brown, or black. Moles are generally not a health concern, but rather a cosmetic problem or enhancement depending upon your point of view.

However, if a mole changes color or shape, you should immediately consult your doctor. Moles that stay the same color and are symmetrical are not cancerous, but if they change color or shape, it is possible that they have become cancerous. Even those who have moles that have not changed color or shape should have a screening for cancer at least once a year. You just can’t be too careful!

Natural is better! Natural is ALWAYS better! So many of the big companies that produce and market skin care and makeup products test those products on poor, unsuspecting, and helpless animals (which I really disapprove of), but how do they know that something that isn’t toxic to a rat, a cat, a dog, or a bunny rabbit isn’t toxic to a human? The fact is, they don’t know. They are making a guess - albeit an educated guess - that the chemicals in their skin care products and makeup products are safe for humans. And sometimes it is years, even decades, later before we find out that they aren’t safe and never have been safe.

Natural means that it comes from the earth. There’s no need to test for safety. Natural skin care products are safe because the ingredients are all natural. There are no side effects. There is no danger that in 20 years, you’ll find out that the moisturizer you’ve been using is the cause of the cancer that you have.

You’ve heard the old saying, “You can’t fool Mother Nature.” I don’t want to fool her. Mother Nature got it right the first time. Everything that we need to care for our skin is supplied by nature, and everything is safe and ultimately much more effective than harsh man-made chemicals and compounds ever will be!

It is a little amazing because you have probably never heard of it, but infantile seborrhoeic eczema occurs in about one out of every five babies born today. If the infantile seborrhoeic eczema is confined to the scalp, it is most often referred to a cradle cap.

Infantile seborrhoeic eczema that is confined to the scalp is easily treatable and can be treated and cleared up with over-the-counter and natural products. Infantile seborrhoeic eczema that is confined to the scalp is often an indicator that other skin problems will develop later in life. It is important to treat cradle cap and not just hope that it goes away.
If dry scaly patches develop at sites other than the scalp, a doctor should be consulted and treatment should be started. If this does happen, the baby’s skin will require special care. Careful cleansing and moisturizing are essential.

There is no one specific cause for infantile seborrhoeic eczema that has been isolated. It can be caused by asthma, hay fever, genetics, or an allergy to something that the skin comes into contact with…or for no apparent reason at all.

Infantile seborrhoeic eczema is not contagious, and that is an important fact to know because it can look contagious. The skin can become red, dry, and itchy. In severe cases, the skin can break and even bleed.

Treating infantile seborrhoeic eczema usually consists of cleaning the affected areas frequently and applying olive oil or baby oil. If you are nursing your baby, it is possible that the baby is allergic to some of the foods that you are eating. Babies are most often allergic to such things as meat, wheat, eggs, and nuts, so you should avoid consuming these foods.

Do you practically DRIP oil? Do you hate it? Cheer up! The good news is that excessive oil can be controlled, and the better news is that when your friends are finding their first wrinkles, your skin will still be smooth and wrinkle-free, so your turn IS coming!
The problem of skin that is too oily right now, though, means that your skin is much more prone to acne breakouts, large pores, and a greasy appearance, and these are the problems that you want to control.

1. The first thing to do is to wash your face two or three times each and EVERY day with good old-fashioned soap and water! Don’t “scrub” too hard. Remember that you skin is, well, skin deep, and scrubbing harder doesn’t clean deeper and might even stimulate the oil glands into producing more oil. Use tepid rather than hot water. Just wash your face and pat it dry. If washing with soap and water isn’t practical throughout your day, go armed with premoistened cleaning pads.

2. Most skin moisturizing products are made to ADD oil, so you need to be sure that you buy noncomedogenic moisturizers.
“Noncomedogenic” means that they are oil-free, so they won’t clog your pores.

3. Avoid cleansers that overly dry your skin. I know it doesn’t sound right, but the fact is that products that dry your skin too much actually cause your skin to produce MORE oil.

4. Talk to your dermatologist about a class of drugs called retinoids. Retinoids decrease oil production in oil glands and also reduce their size.

5. If your acne breakouts are too frequent and too severe, talk to your dermatologist about treating the acne as well as the oily skin problem. There IS help out there!

Remember that your turn is coming! When your friends are fighting dry skin, fine lines, and wrinkles, you will still be glowing!

There was a time when it was considered very unfashionable for a woman to have tanned skin. The skin-beauty objective or those long-ago days was to have milky white skin, or what was called a “peaches and cream” complexion. Tan is in! And men as well as women go to great lengths to soak up enough sunrays so that their skin turns an ever darker shade of tan, and the darker the better. Tanned skin is a symbol of health, vitality, and youth today.

The problem is that exposing our skin to excessive sunrays is the single most damaging thing you can do to your skin, and it will cause premature aging of the skin. Tanned skin might be your objective today, but you need to be smart about acquiring that tan so that you don’t look old before your time.

The first thing to do is just to simply avoid being in the sun between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM. Those are the peak sunlight hours, and the time when the sun’s rays are the strongest.

When you do go out into the sun, be certain that you have protected your skin with a sunscreen that has no less than SPF-15 rating. Research has found that very few people apply their sunscreen thick enough to get the full benefit. So slather the sunscreen on…thick!

We all love the sun’s rays, but you need to be smart about exposing your skin to the sun.

1. Stay out of the sun between 10 AM and 2 PM
2. Use a sunscreen with a rating of SPF-15 or greater, and slather on enough to do some good.

Excessive sun rays cause drying and wrinkling of the skin….not to mention a greatly increased risk of skin cancer!

Aloe vera is most often grown indoors in pots because it is particularly susceptible to frost. A constant, year-round, warm, moist climate is essential for the aloe vera plant to survive. It isn’t a really pretty house plant, but a great many people have large pots of aloe vera in their homes not for its beauty, but for its medicinal properties. The aloe vera plant looks like grass on steroids. The blades are long, narrow, and dark green. On each side of a blade, there are small spikes.
<!--
google_ad_client = "pub-0300354814995434";

Inside each long, dark-green blade, there is a gel that has long been used as medicine. The aloe vera plant has been used by many cultures for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, the Indians, and the Chinese have all used aloe vera. The Egyptian queens Nerfertiti and Cleopatra used it as part of their regular beauty regimens.

Aloe vera is endowed with such wonderful medicinal properties that over the years it has been given some rather interesting and colorful names such as; Burn Plant, Medicine Plant, Wand of Heaven, and Plant of Life.

The best way to use aloe vera is to remove a leaf from a plant, fillet it, and apply the gel to the affected area; but that isn’t always practical. Aloe vera is used in a great many over-the-counter medications that you can find on the shelves of your local pharmacy, grocery store, or discount pharmacy and at thousands of sites on the Internet.

Aloe vera is used in products to treat all kinds of skin irritations, including acne, eczema, and psoriasis, among others. (Aloe vera is also used internally to treat digestive and bowel problems as well, and it was first used as a laxative.)

Cleopatra bathed in goat’s milk in ancient Egypt, and goats are the oldest domesticated animal. Goats are bred for various purposes. Some goats are bred for meat, some are bred for their skin and others are bred for their milk. A goat that has been bred for milk production can produce as much as 465 gallons of milk each year. Goat’s milk can be drunk fresh, but pasteurization is recommended to reduce bacteria.

Goat’s milk is very closely related in make up to human milk — much more so than cow’s milk — and goat’s milk contains 20% less cholesterol than cow’s milk. Most people lose their ability to digest cow’s milk as they age past childhood. Some will even become lactose intolerant. Goat’s milk contains much less lactose than cow’s milk, so goat’s milk could be the answer for those who have become lactose intolerant. There is only a very slight taste difference between cow’s milk and goat’s milk today.

But let’s get back to the almost magical properties of goat’s milk and healthy skin. Changing from drinking cow’s milk to drinking goat’s milk will produce benefits to skin that is affected by eczema or psoriasis in about two days’ time. You will see almost immediate improvement.

Does goat’s milk contain a magical skin ingredient? I don’t know, but I do know that if you will try drinking goat’s milk, you will be very pleasantly surprised!

A cold sore or fever blister is not only unsightly, it is also downright painful — not to mention contagious at every stage between eruption and gone. A cold sore or a fever blister is caused by the herpes simplex virus, which is very easily transmitted between people. The virus can be transferred by skin-to-skin contact, and even simply brushing a cold sore can transmit the virus. The virus can also be transferred through inanimate objects like drinking glasses or eating utensils.
The herpes simplex virus is most easily transmitted during the “weeping” stage or the ulcer stage, but it is contagious at all stages.

Prevention:
There isn’t a foolproof way to prevent cold sores or fever blisters. They usually form when the body’s immune system is not functioning at its best, so staying healthy does help. But when you feel a cold sore forming, there are a couple of things that you can do to prevent it from forming, or to at least lessen the severity.

1. Apply ice to the area. The cold helps to lower the temperature of the area and thus reduce the metabolic rate. This will help to stifle the development of the cold sore.

2. Apply a tea bag to the area. Tea leaves contain tannic acid, which is contained in many cold sore remedies.

Treatment:
There are hundreds or thousands of cold sore remedies available over the counter. You don’t need a prescription to buy them. Most all of them work well, but they do take time. You can expect a cold sore to last between a week and 10 days with treatment, and even longer without treatment.

Poor sulfur! It suffers from such a bad reputation. When people think of sulfur, they just naturally think of the yucky smell of rotten eggs, which is actually sulfur dioxide gas. Or they think of the biblical admonition of “fire and brimstone” associated with hell itself. (The term “brimstone” is an archaic name for sulfur.) Sulfur is what causes the strong odor near hot springs and volcanoes. It’s true that sulfur doesn’t smell very good, but sulfur isn’t all bad either.
About 25% of our bodies contain sulfur. It is mostly found in keratin, which fortifies the skin, nails, and hair. Sulfur must be present for the body to produce collagen, which keeps skin soft and supple. That’s why sulfur is often referred to as “the beauty mineral.”

Sulfur is present in many of the foods that we eat, such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, garlic, onions, Brussels sprouts, kale, wheat germ, and asparagus.

Sulfur has a long history for use as a health and beauty mineral. The ancient Romans soaked themselves in sulfuric waters to relieve pain and to prevent aging. Today, many of the beauty products that we buy over the counter or that are prescribed to us by our doctors to treat skin ailments like psoriasis, eczema, folliculitis and acne contain sulfur.

The ideal solution would be to get the sulfur without the awful smell, right? We can do that. Amazingly enough, Dead Sea salt has a very high concentration of sulfur, but none of the smell. There are a great many skin care products that contain Dead Sea salt available without a prescription today. Dead Sea salt can be purchased in bulk to be added to bath water for the purpose of treating body acne or other skin problems.
